Few grapes scream more for the warmer months than Vermentino, and Sa Raja is a sure fire bet as we transition to outdoor enjoyment! This example comes from the Gallura region of Sardinia's northeast, one of a handful of areas where this grape reaches such a level of quality. Made by an all-star team led by Mark Hartmann and Federico Curtaz (who cut his teeth at famous properties in Barbaresco and Etna), this wine sees no oak whatsoever, but rests on its fine lees for 6 months for added texture. A sun splashed nose of white peach, lemon oil, and sage leads to fleshy white grapefruit and apricot with a saline edge on the palate. Salinity reaches a crescendo on the finish, joined by intense minerals and a slightly bitter pithiness. While this wine is enormously refreshing and "crushable", it is also supremely nuanced and a delight for the senses!
