A fresh, brighter take on Minervois Rouge, made with all organic grapes in a fruit-forward style with softer tannins. Mostly Syrah, with added Carignan, Massiac 'Sentinelle' has terrific notes of black raspberry and black currant, with classic savory notes of herbs de Provence, pepper, and spice. Lots of layered and nuanced flavor for this price. Chateau Massiac was built in the 17th century, in what is now the Languedoc's appellation of Minervois. Bernard Boudouresque revived the estate, ultimately transitioning to Organic viticulture (certified since 2012). Conditions at the state are nearly as good as it gets in the region. Limestone and clay subsoils streaked with marble and silex are easily penetrated by vine roots with just the right amount of drainage. Mediterranean breezes and ample sunshine warm the area by day, ensuring complete and even ripeness. Winds from the nearby mountains cool and dry the vineyards at night, maintaining freshness and acidity. In short, this is a terrific location to grow grapes and this wine is a testament to the capability of the environment.
