While the reds of the Piedmont deservedly receive much of the attention, don't sleep on the region's stellar white wines. Arneis is among the best, most prominently grown in the hills of Roero, in the northern portion of the Langhe. While Arneis can get quite serious and even pricey, it also makes for delightful "any-night-of-the-week" refreshers for easy food pairing. Guidobono's is the latter: a crisp porch-pounder full of life and vivaciousness with exhilarating acidity and a singular personality. Fresh fruit tones of bosc pear, apples, and a touch of almond make up the palate, and a lovely, clean, floral bouquet wafts from the glass. This is the kind of white to grab a case of early in the summer and look on with wonder when it is suddenly gone before July 4th! Food Pairings: Ravioli with Butter and Lavender, Veal Milanese, Shrimp and Fennel Risotto
