The Nascetta grape is lucky to exist today, and we are even luckier to be able to present it to you in the form of Diego Conterno's bottling! This varietal is native to just one town in the Barolo zone of the Piedmont: Novello. A difficult grape to grow, almost all of Novello's Nascetta vines were replaced over the years with Nebbiolo, another difficult grape to grow, but one that commands a much higher price! The hard work of a few producers has led to a modest revival of the grape since the 1990's, and Conterno's example shows us why that is exciting:Meyer lemon, pear, mint and basil all intersect on the nose. The front of the palate is textured and weighty, supported by more rich stone fruit that transitions into a captivating finish with pithy citrus, thyme, stones, and a healthy dose of salinity. A must try for Piedmont drinkers!
